Author Talk: Antiracist Conversations – Dismantling Racism with Fierce Compassion

Join Roxy Manning, clinical psychologist and Nonviolent Communication trainer, for a transformative workshop open to all. Using principles that build mutual compassion and guide truthful conversations, this workshop is designed to support dismantling racism and other oppressions in ourselves and in our institutions.
Drawing from her books, How to Have Antiracist Conversations and The Antiracist Heart*, Dr. Manning will guide participants through practical tools and strategies to foster meaningful dialogues about racism and systemic oppression.
Participants will
- Explore self-compassion practices for resilience in antiracist work.
- Identify and address internalized racism and unconscious biases.
- Develop plans to dismantle systemic barriers in their communities.
- Build skills to create a welcoming and equitable environment
This workshop, hosted by Vancouver Unitarians and open to all, combines lectures, group discussions, and hands-on activities to equip attendees for the work of dismantling racism in their daily lives and communities. Come join Vancouver Unitarian members on their continued path towards the full justice that will create Beloved Community.
Roxy will be interviewed as part of the 11am worship service in the Sanctuary. Following the service, join Roxy for an interactive workshop 1pm-4pm.
This event is offered free of charge and will be followed by a book signing.
Dr. Manning’s books are available for order here and through Indigenous-owned Massy Books and through Banyen Books, and are in the Vancouver Unitarians library.
Dr Manning will also be hosted by Massy Books, Saturday October 5, from 2-4 pm in the Massy Arts Society space (23 E Pender St,Vancouver) for a book-talk and Q&A.

About the Speaker
Dr. Roxy Manning, a clinical psychologist and social justice advocate, specializes in building resilience and equity. Her experience as a Black Caribbean immigrant informs her work with diverse groups globally, focusing on healing internalized oppression and empowering transformative dialogue. She is an assessor and certified trainer in Nonviolent Communication. Roxy is the author of How to Have Antiracist Conversations and co-author of The Antiracist Heart. She also co-hosts the Fierce Compassion podcast.
